The Institute for Peace Studies will be celebrating the International Peace Day on the 21st of September 2010, mark the date on your calendar.

Program

Description

The Institute conducts research, training and study programs that focus on six clusters of issues:
  • Law, ethics and human rights;
  • Conflict resolution and post-conflict areas;
  • Mediation and negotiation theory and practice;
  • Human security and peace;
  • Promotion of a culture of peace;
  • Gender and peace building.
The Institute’s work program includes two main areas: research and training.

The Research Unit is concerned with:

  1. Developing an up-to-date database of international peace studies academic research and documents.
  2. Preparing an up-to-date database of international peace institutes and organizations.
  3. Supervising the UNESCO/Suzanne Mubarak/Japan-Egypt Friendship Research Fellowships for the Empowerment of Women in Peace and Gender Studies.
  4. Supervising the translation, arabization and compilation of teaching materials.
  5. Publishing scientific bulletins and research papers.
  6. Developing teaching materials.
  7. Organizing conferences and seminars with international institutions.
  8. Preparing case studies.
  9. Publishing a periodical newsletter.

The Training and Outreach Unit of the institute focuses on:

  1. Developing training materials.
  2. Organizing training sessions, public lectures and workshops.
  3. Training of trainers.
  4. Conducting national awareness and community outreach programs that engage women and children.
  5. Assessing trainees and partner organizations’ training needs.
  6. Monitoring and evaluating training to ensure that it enhances the capabilities of the trainees and contributes to capacity building of target population.
  7. Building a strong network of partners in the field of peace.
  8. Organizing internet based workshops, youth forums and group discussions.
